Your information

Privacy Notice

This notice explains how JobStatement handles your personal information when you use our website or personal-statement services.

Last updated: 1 October 2026

Who is responsible for your information

JobStatement is a sole-trader business based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. JobStatement is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice.

Questions or requests can be sent to ask@jobstatement.com.

Information we collect

We may collect:

  • your name, email address and correspondence;
  • your teaching subject or phase, job advert details, personal statement, form answers and other material you send us;
  • order, payment and service-delivery records for paid services;
  • technical and usage information, including device, browser and website interaction data, where analytics consent is given; and
  • feedback, preferences and marketing choices.

Please remove information about pupils, colleagues or other people unless it is genuinely necessary. Do not send safeguarding records, medical details or other sensitive third-party information.

How and why we use it

We use your information to provide the requested appraisal, editing or writing service; communicate with you; process orders; improve and secure the website; keep appropriate business records; and meet legal obligations.

Our lawful bases under UK data-protection law are usually taking steps at your request or performing our contract, our legitimate interests in operating and improving JobStatement, compliance with legal obligations, and consent where required for analytics or marketing.

Sharing and marketing

We may share information only as needed with qualified teacher reviewers and trusted providers supporting hosting, email, payments, analytics and business administration. They must handle it securely and only for the agreed purpose.

We will only send electronic marketing or share contact details with third-party marketing providers where you have given valid consent. You can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing us. We do not share the text of personal statements, job adverts or appraisal reports for third-party marketing.

We do not sell personal information.

Retention and international transfers

We normally retain submitted statements, job adverts, appraisal reports and related correspondence for 12 months after the service ends, then delete or anonymise them. Transaction and tax records may be kept longer where the law requires it. We may keep a minimal suppression record after a marketing opt-out.

Some service providers may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, we use a lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may ask us to access, correct, erase, restrict or transfer your information, or object to certain uses. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful use.

Email ask@jobstatement.com to exercise a right. We may need to verify your identity. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Security and changes

We use reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please send only what is needed for the service.

We may update this notice when our services or legal obligations change. The latest version will appear on this page with its revision date.
